Conversations with elders
Nothing changes perspective like time.
People who have been around this Earth for 70 or 80 years tell me fascinating things. It never fails to inspire me: their journey, their tips, their doubts…
Last week I was enjoying a cup of tea at a hotel lobby in Barcelona, just because I was craving beauty. I sit next to an elegant, old-looking couple. We spend an hour talking, enjoying the conversation.
They asked me what I did for a living, and I reply “I am looking for new adventures, but I am not so sure what will come next.” They both smiled, giving me a kind of reassurance that only strangers can give.
After a while, the old man told me: “When I was young, I used to believe I was invincible. Now that I’m old, I know that it is not true. I also know that one day, I will be in front of God and will have to answer to this question - What have you done with the talents that I gave you?”
This question stuck with me. It made me reflect on my talents, what comes naturally to me, and how I can use them to help myself and others.
We all have natural talents, we can use them as a compass when we’re lost.
Sending love wherever you are,
❤️
Ines
